Nowadays, it seems like everyone is trying to lose weight. But what if I told you that you could walk your way to a slimmer waistline?

You see, walking has been shown time and time again to be an effective form of exercise for weight loss. Why not give it a try?

Walking can help achieve your weight goal for a variety of reasons. It takes about 1 week to lose 1 pound of muscle. You can increase that weight loss by combining it with proper diet and nutrition. Walking can help you lose weight because it burns calories and boosts your metabolism.

In this post, I’ll explain how you can start losing 1 pound of unwanted fat every week.

How Long Will It Take To Lose 1 Pound Of Fat

Depending on your commitment, a weight loss of 1 pound a week is a good goal to shoot for. If you are walking an hour every day and maintaining your current diet, then it shouldn’t take that long.

It takes a total of 3500 calories to burn 1 pound of fat. With that being said, if you burn 500 calories a day, then it will take approximately 7 days to lose one pound of fat. (7 x 500 = 3500) A good thing about that number is that you can easily burn 500 calories if you’re adding in extra exercises.

Now, If you’re like most people who are busy with work, family, and other commitments, you can achieve that 500 calories from workout and dieting (caloric deficit).

A caloric deficit is perfect for those who are looking to lose weight, but don’t have the time for many workouts.

Caloric Deficit

A caloric deficit is  when you consume less calories than what your body is burning alone.

A better explanation, Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR is the amount of calories your body burns per day without physical activity. If you want to lose weight faster, then you must create a caloric deficit through diet and exercises.

Diet And Walking

By combining walking with caloric deficit, you can achieve a weight-loss goal more quickly. If you burn 250 calories from walking and combine it with a 250 caloric deficit, obtaining that 500 calories goal will be easier.

How Long Does It Take To Burn 250 Calories From Walking?

The amount of time to burn 250 calories would take approximately 50 to 60 minutes. According to recent studies, a person that weighs 150 pound would take  about 45 minutes of walking to burn 250 calories.

How Long Will It Take To Burn 20 Pounds?

With minimal effort of eating 250 calories less per day and walking about 50minutes a day, it should take you about 20 weeks. Remember, that’s with minimal effort! Once you start to see great results and increase your walking time and caloric deficit, you’ll see greater and faster weight loss results.

Think about this, if you burn 250 calories from walking, 250 calories from caloric deficit, and then add another 250 from some other type of exercise or physical activity. That’s 750 calories per day! That means your 20 pound weight loss goal can be achievable in 15 weeks!

Remember that this is a general estimate and the amount of time will vary depending on how much effort you want to put in it. Obviously,  the more effort you put in, the faster your results will be (vice versa).

Recap

Walk at least 20 minutes per day, and up the duration as time goes on (this means gradually). And don’t worry about how fast or slow your walk is – just keep moving!

A good way to do this is by adding in an extra 500 calories burned from working out more and eating less (but not too little that your body doesn’t have enough nutrients).

For example: You can burn those additional 250 or so from walking alone then the other 250 can from walking.

Remember, the more work you put it the faster your weight loss will be. Also, know your limits! You know how your body is and you know when you’re putting too much intensity. Injuries will only set you back.
